Do not use iron indiscriminately to fight anemia

First, for many anemias, iron supplements are ineffective. The therapeutic effect of iron is for iron deficiency anemia, while iron is not useful for megaloblastic anemia, hemolytic anemia and aplastic anemia. The reason is very simple, just like what we usually say “what is lacking is supplemented”, iron deficiency anemia is because the body lacks the component of “iron”, so iron supplements are needed, while other types of anemia do not necessarily lack “iron “Therefore, iron supplements cannot achieve the therapeutic effect even if iron supplements are used. Secondly, the blind use of iron supplements not only causes waste, but also is harmful to the body. If excessive iron salts are taken for a long time, iron can enter the blood from the intestinal mucosa through direct osmosis, which can induce cirrhosis of the liver, diabetes and hemochromatosis (a systemic disease occurring due to excessive iron deposition in tissues) as the main manifestation of skin pigmentation. Therefore, it is harmful for non-iron-deficient anemic people to take large amounts of iron supplements for a long time, and ordinary people should not abuse iron supplements as “blood supplements”. Finally, it is advisable for some patients with anemia to go to the hospital to clarify the condition and type of anemia, and if iron deficiency anemia is diagnosed, then use iron supplements correctly and reasonably according to medical advice.
