General anesthesia or local anesthesia for root canal treatment of children’s teeth

Root canal treatment for children’s teeth is usually done using local anesthesia, or general anesthesia can be used if more than one tooth is being treated and the child is not cooperating. Root canal treatment refers to the mechanical and chemical methods to remove the infected pulp tissue, and root canal preparation, thoroughly remove the infected material in the root canal, and then fill the root canal to complete the crown restoration. Because root canal treatment is performed under local anesthesia to remove the nerve of the tooth, some necrotic ones can be cleaned up directly without injection of anesthetic. And during the treatment, the child can be completely awake, usually do not need to have a general anesthesia. However, if the child needs to do multiple teeth treatment and cannot cooperate, general anesthesia can be considered. Therefore, whether the child is under general anesthesia or local anesthesia during root canal treatment needs to be judged by a professional doctor.
