Cistanchis, also known as Cistanche, is usually taken in decoction, and its effect is limited when brewed as tea. It does not have the effect and efficacy of traditional Chinese medicine, and cannot be used for treating diseases. Cistanchis is sweet, salty and warm in nature. It belongs to the kidney and large intestine meridians, and has the effects of tonifying kidney yang, benefiting essence and blood, moistening the intestines and laxatives; it is effective in treating impotence, infertility, coldness and fear of cold, and lumbar and knee soreness (the feeling of lumbar and knee soreness and weakness) due to kidney yang deficiency, as well as treating constipation and dryness of the intestines and bowels. Cistanchis is usually taken in decoction. Its adverse effects are not known. It is contraindicated in cases of yin deficiency (deficiency of yin and essence in the body, resulting in hyperactive fire) and loose stools (loose, unformed feces) and diarrhea. It is not suitable for those with solid heat in the stomach and intestines, or those with constipation due to heat. Cistanchis should be taken under the guidance of a medical practitioner and should not be taken on its own. If there is any discomfort, please consult a doctor promptly.
