Root canal treatment in children is usually performed 3-4 times. When severe caries occurs in a milk tooth and the pulp is exposed, the pulp cavity can be ground open under local anesthesia and the thick pulp removed, or a milk tooth deactivator can be placed directly on the exposed pulp, and the deactivated pulp is removed after a week for root canal preparation and flushing. Root canals are to be disinfected with a medication such as camphor phenol, and after 7-10 days the canals are to be filled with calcium hydroxide or iodoform paste. If X-rays show no significant oozing from the root apex and no significant percussion pain, the cavity can be filled with silver amalgam or glass ionomer cementum to restore the anatomical shape of the tooth.
