How should I take motherwort?

Motherwort should be decocted and used for dysmenorrhea and menorrhagia, edema and urination, sores and canker sores. Motherwort is the fresh or dried above-ground part of the plant of the family Labiatae, with bitter, pungent and slightly cold properties, belonging to the liver, pericardium and bladder meridians, it has the efficacy of regulating menstruation and activating blood circulation, detoxifying and clearing away heat, diuretic and eliminating oedema, and can be used for menstrual disorders, not exhausting the discharge of evil fluid, menstrual closure and dysmenorrhea, and is the key medicine for gynecological menstruation and obstetrics diseases. It can also be used in treating bruises, sores, carbuncles and swollen poisons (surgical diseases caused by bacterial or viral infections). It can be used together with Angelica sinensis and Rhizoma Ligustici Chuanxiong for the treatment of stagnation, swelling and pain, bruises and injuries. This product can also be used for edema and low urine output. It can be used together with Ze Lan and Bai Mao Gen, or used alone to treat edema where water stasis is intertwined. This product needs to be decocted and used with caution in pregnant women, and the adverse effects are still unclear.
