Do teratomas come back?

Teratoma may recur. Generally, the treatment of benign teratoma is mainly based on surgery with a low recurrence rate, while malignant teratoma has a higher recurrence rate and usually requires surgery and chemotherapy. It is recommended that patients undergo regular review after teratoma treatment, have regular checkups, and seek timely medical attention if they feel unwell.
Teratoma is a tumor derived from germ cells with internal and external and mesodermal differentiation, most of them are benign tumors, a few of them are malignant tumors, and there is a certain recurrence rate after treatment. Benign teratomas have a low recurrence rate after surgery, but still require regular review.
During the examination and surgery, there may be smaller tumors that are not detected and there is a chance of residual surgery. After the surgery, small teratomas will grow further, and thus may recur. If the teratoma is malignant, it usually requires chemotherapy, which has a higher chance of recurrence. If you don’t pay attention to the review after surgery and don’t use chemotherapy drugs, it will be easier to recur.
Therefore, teratoma patients need to go to the hospital for regular checkups after the surgery, and consult the doctor in time if there is any abnormality, do not judge by yourself, so as not to delay and aggravate the condition.
