What is the meaning of soft tissue thickening

Soft tissue thickening usually refers to cell proliferation or edema, which is caused by cell proliferation, edema or heterogeneous proliferation due to inflammatory stimulation, traumatic stimulation or tumor invasion, so soft tissue thickening due to different causes should be analyzed specifically. In the case of inflammatory stimulation, after anti-inflammatory and symptomatic treatment, the hyperplastic soft tissue may disappear, become thinner or no longer thicken. If the soft tissue thickening and edema is caused by trauma, the edema will disappear and gradually return to normal after treatment with cold compresses, heat therapy, drugs or surgery. If the soft tissue thickening is caused by tumor, usually under imaging examination can show abnormal hyperplasia and the morphology is different from normal tissue. For the tumor surrounding tissues that have been removed, if there is continued soft tissue thickening after surgery, it is important to consider whether there is tumor recurrence.
