Any vision above 1.0 is normal for elementary school children, and the age for elementary school is usually six years old or older, so any vision found not to be at 1.0 is considered abnormal. Since most children are born with high farsightedness, newborns have only manual or index vision. As they get older, their vision improves as their eyes develop and their axes lengthen. So by the age of six to seven, a child’s vision is basically well-developed and he or she can see about 1.0, and some children may see 1.2, 1.5 or even 2.0. If they don’t reach 1.0, they need to go to a hospital eye clinic for a routine checkup to find out why. It may be caused by myopia, hyperopia or astigmatism, or by other eye diseases, such as keratitis, fundus disease, etc., which need to be standardized under the guidance of physicians.
