There are many causes of spitting up bloody sputum, and the main consideration is that there is still a tracheal and lung problem causing it, and a CT scan is needed to see if there is bronchial dilatation or a tumour. If these tests are fine, then localised bleeding from the mouth, nose and throat may also be the cause.
