What is the most likely cause of coughing up bloody sputum?

The more common causes are mostly respiratory diseases, bronchiectasis, lung abscess, lung cancer, tuberculosis, etc. The patient should be identified by the presence of accompanying symptoms such as chills, fever, shortness of breath, etc.; and by relevant ancillary tests such as lung CT, blood tests and sputum smears for Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The presence of bleeding from the mouth, nose and throat should also be noted.
