Can Laryngoscopy Detect Esophageal Cancer?

Laryngoscopy cannot detect esophageal cancer, and gastroscopy is needed to check esophageal cancer.

Esophageal cancer is one of the most common cancers, and most of the clinically treated patients are in the middle and late stages with poor prognosis. Laryngoscopy cannot detect esophageal cancer because it cannot enter the esophagus and can only observe the situation of the pharynx, such as the epiglottis and the root of the tongue. Laryngoscopy is mainly used to check respiratory tract lesions.

Esophageal diseases are usually examined using upper gastrointestinal imaging, magnetic resonance imaging, and ultrasound endoscopy. Checking esophageal cancer requires gastroscopy, which can enter the esophagus, stomach and other parts of the esophagus and can examine the specific conditions of the esophagus, stomach and duodenal mucosa in detail. If it is found that the mucosa of esophagus is abnormal, pathological biopsy should be carried out in time to clarify whether it is esophageal cancer.

It is suggested that patients should avoid smoking, alcohol and spicy stimulating food, have balanced nutrition, eat more vegetables and fruits, and take proper exercise to enhance the resistance of the body.
