What are the results of the interventional valve implantation procedure?

The procedure can be completed in more than 90% of patients who require valve implantation, either by the transfemoral or transcatheter approach. Successful valve implantation significantly improves patient cardiac function, with hemodynamic indices largely approximating those of conventional bioprosthetic valves. Patients have a 1-month mortality rate of 5-15%. Major associated complications include stroke (1C5%); the need for a permanent pacemaker (7% for ball-expandable stents and 40% for self-expandable stents); vascular complications (more than 20%); perivalvular leaks are common (mostly mild); and, in addition, about 2% of patients need to be converted to emergency conventional surgery because of serious complications. The 1-year survival rate of patients is about 60-80%, with significant improvement in health status and quality of life in this group of patients. The long-term durability of the valve needs to be further observed.
