Is the liver on the left or right side of the body

Most of the liver is on the right side of the body, i.e., the right upper abdomen, with a small portion on the left upper abdomen. The liver is mainly located in the right upper abdominal region of the body and is mostly covered by the costal arch. Usually in adults, the liver is not palpable at the lower edge of the right costal arch, but it can be palpated 2~4 cm below the xiphoid process. In children, the liver is relatively large and can often be palpated within 1.5~2.0 cm below the right costal arch, but it is difficult to palpate it below the right costal arch until after the age of 7 years. Normally, the liver is not palpable. However, there are a few normal people who can touch the liver under the xiphoid process, and when liver disease occurs, such as acute hepatitis and other lesions, because of the increase of liver volume, the liver can be touched on palpation; when liver tumors, such as hepatocellular carcinoma, occur, the liver is irregularly enlarged, and at this time, hard lumps can be touched on palpation, and there is pressure and pain. It is suggested that patients with liver discomfort should consult regular hospitals in time, complete relevant examinations and clarify the cause of the disease.
