Which is better, gliclazide or glimepiride?

There is no such thing as “which one is better, Gliclazide or Glimepiride”, but compared to Gliclazide, Glimepiride has a lower incidence of hypoglycemia. Gliclazide and glimepiride are both sulfonylurea hypoglycemic drugs, which can bind with pancreatic β-cell receptors and then promote insulin secretion to lower blood glucose; gliclazide is a second-generation hypoglycemic drug and glimepiride is a third-generation hypoglycemic drug, so there’s no such thing as “which one of these is better”, but the risk of hypoglycemia is higher with gliclazide than glimepiride. The risk of hypoglycemia is higher with gliclazide than with glimepiride. Gliclazide and glimepiride should not be used in cases of allergy to the drug, diabetic ketoacidosis, severe renal or hepatic insufficiency, pregnancy and lactation, and type 1 diabetes. Adverse effects of both include hypoglycemia, nausea, vomiting, bloating, anemia, rash, and itching. Patients requiring treatment with gliclazide or glimepiride should take the medication under a doctor’s supervision.
