How to treat “frozen shoulder” quickly?

Frozen shoulder is a self-limiting disease with a tendency to heal on its own. After several months or even years, the inflammation gradually subsides and the symptoms are relieved, but most patients are left with some disability. In the acute phase (which can last 2-3 weeks), severe pain is the main cause, and the principle of treatment is to relieve pain and muscle spasm. A triangular scarf suspension brake is applied, and sedative, analgesic and muscle relaxant drugs are used. Local closure is also possible, and glenohumeral joint closure is effective. In the chronic phase (i.e., freezing phase, which can last for several months to more than a year), the pain symptoms are relatively reduced, but the pressure pain is still widespread. The joint contracture dysfunction appears, and it is mostly unable to lift the arm, wash the face and comb the hair. The principle of treatment is to do appropriate functional exercises under the condition of pain relief to prevent aggravation of joint contracture. With the help of medication for pain relief, physical therapy and acupuncture, gentle passive exercises and functional exercises and massage of the muscles around the shoulder should be performed. Bending the back and hanging the arms in a back and forth, left and right pendulum swing movement can help to achieve the above purpose. During the functional recovery period, the inflammation is gradually absorbed, the blood supply returns to normal, and the function of the shoulder joint returns to normal or near normal in most patients. Muscle atrophy takes a longer time to recover. Physiotherapy or physical therapy should be used as the main part of the rehabilitation treatment. Patients with obvious shoulder contracture can be treated with manual release or arthroscopic surgery.
