Difference between chicken breast and funnel chest

The difference between chicken chest and funnel chest includes etiology, symptomatic manifestation, and prognosis.
1. Etiology, chicken chest is related to congenital developmental abnormalities and acquired factors such as vitamin D deficiency rickets; funnel chest is related to malnutrition, developmental abnormalities, intrathoracic diseases and so on, for example, patients with chronic pyothorax can develop funnel chest.
2. Symptoms, is the most obvious difference. The main symptom of chicken chest is the deformity of anterior protrusion of the sternum, and the back of the chest wall may be protruding in severe cases; the main symptom of funnel chest is the deformity of backward depression of the middle and lower part of the sternum, and at the same time, both sides of the wall may be depressed deformity, forming the shape of a funnel.
3. Prognosis, although both can be cured by conservative or surgical treatment, but generally cannot be cured by themselves, while funnel chest can be cured by themselves if the degree of deformity is mild, and no special treatment is needed.
When thoracic deformity occurs, it is recommended to consult a doctor in time, subject to the doctor’s opinion.
