Effects of Verapamil

Verapamil is a class IV antiarrhythmic drug and a non-dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker. These drugs help dilate coronary arteries, reduce peripheral vascular resistance, lower myocardial oxygen consumption, and terminate atrioventricular node and atrioventricular fold tachycardia, as well as slow down atrial tachycardia, especially for atrial fibrillation, atrial flutter, and multi-source atrial tachycardia. However, some patients may experience dizziness, headache, constipation, nausea, peripheral vascular edema, and may also experience elevated transaminases while taking this drug.
