The five early signs of hydrocephalus are increased head circumference, unsteady gait, mental retardation, sun-setting eyes, and urinary and fecal incontinence. 1. Increase in head circumference: hydrocephalus will lead to an increase in brain volume, which will be manifested as an increase in head circumference, which is more obvious in children, and in severe cases, the neck of the affected children cannot stand upright. 2. Unsteady gait: patients suffering from hydrocephalus will have their body balance affected, especially in the process of walking, which is easy to fall down, and with the aggravation of the disease, serious cases will become bed-ridden. 3. Intellectual disability: small children may have delayed psychomotor development, decreased intelligence and poor learning ability. Patients also suffer from memory loss, slow reaction time, and in severe cases, dementia. 4. Sunset eye sign: Hydrocephalus will lead to increased intracranial pressure, which will cause eye movement disorders, and the typical eye sign will appear, which manifests as limited upward vision of both eyes, and the lower part of both eyeballs sinks below the lower eyelid. 5. Urinary and fecal incontinence: It mainly manifests as frequent urination, difficulty in urination, or even incontinence, etc. The symptoms worsen with the aggravation of the disease. If hydrocephalus is diagnosed, early standardized treatment is recommended to reduce the adverse effects of the disease.
