The human external ear canal has its own physiological function. Under normal circumstances, cerumen and other secretions produced in the ear canal will be discharged out of the external canal on its own with the movement of the body and change of head position. If you use an ear digging spoon or other objects to dig into the ear canal, the skin of the external ear canal may be damaged, resulting in otitis externa and repeated infections. Repeated picking of the outer ear canal may also injure the eardrum, leading to perforation of the eardrum and even purulent otitis media. If you feel itchy, painful or stuffy in the ear, it is recommended that you do not pick the ear canal on your own, but go to the ear, nose and throat department of a regular hospital and be treated by a professional physician in a timely manner.
