What does it mean to be HPV53 positive?

HPV53 positivity indicates that the cervical epithelium is infected with high-risk HPV. 80% of patients have a transient infection that will disappear on its own after about 8 months to 1 year, while 20% of patients have a persistent infection that can cause more serious harm, such as cervical epithelial lesions or cervical cancer. Once a high-risk HPV infection is detected, it is difficult to determine how long the infection has been present, but first a colposcopy is performed and a biopsy is taken for laboratory testing to determine the next step in treatment based on the pathology. If the colposcopy and pathology are negative after HPV infection, it is recommended that the test be repeated in 8 months or 1 year; if it is positive, active clinical treatment will be given according to the results.
