Many choices of IOLs

An IOL, which is something that is surgically placed inside the eye to replace the natural lens. A thin piece is equivalent to replacing a lens. There are many kinds of IOLs, mainly the following: 1. Rigid IOL The incision is about 6mm, such a wound requires stitches, then the stitches will cause some astigmatism, and the short-term reaction after the surgery is bigger and the recovery time is longer. 2.Folding IOL Most patients will choose this kind of IOL, which is folded first, put inside the special implant, and then pushed into the eyeball to unfold, so the incision is usually 3.0~3.2mm, this kind of incision does not need stitches, and the astigmatism is smaller, and the recovery time is faster. 3.Special treated IOLs For some patients with specific eye diseases, this type of IOL may be needed, such as heparin surface treated IOLs, which have much less inflammatory reaction after surgery. 4. Bifocal/Adjustable IOLs These IOLs are designed to meet the requirements of both distance and near vision, which the previous types of IOLs cannot do. They have only one focal point, so they can see clearly at a distance, but need to wear presbyopia when seeing near. Or vice versa, see near clearly, see far have to wear myopic lenses. However, this new type of IOL is still in the process of improvement and refinement, some patients will have discomfort such as glare after surgery, the focusing range has a certain limit, not everyone is suitable for selection. Doctor’s tip: The specific type of IOL to be chosen depends on the surgeon’s opinion.
