Nifedipine tablets are short-acting dihydropyridine calcium channel blockers, which have a rapid onset of antihypertensive effect and can also dilate coronary arteries and relieve angina pectoris attacks. However, it is not recommended to use nifedipine tablets for the treatment of hypertension and other cardiovascular diseases, mainly because nifedipine tablets can significantly and reflexively excite the sympathetic nervous system, resulting in an increased heart rate, which can lead to a significant increase in the incidence of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular events with long-term use, and thus is not conducive to the long-term prognosis of patients. Currently, extended-release formulations of nifedipine or controlled-release formulations of nifedipine are often used clinically to treat hypertension, as well as to control coronary artery disease, myocardial ischemia, and angina attacks, and the extended-release and controlled-release formulations do not significantly excite the sympathetic nervous system.
