Resection of the left lung usually does not affect normal life expectancy if no tumor metastasis occurs; if tumor metastasis occurs, the average 5-year survival rate is 15% to 17%.
If the resection of the left lung is due to lung cancer and no tumor metastasis occurs in the right lung after the resection, it is usually able to have a natural life expectancy. Meanwhile, severe tuberculosis, abscess cavity, etc. will not affect the natural life expectancy after resection. Although the respiratory function will be obviously affected, it is able to maintain the normal oxygen supply of the body, only the exercise tolerance and lung function will be obviously decreased.
However, if tumor metastasis occurs in other parts of the body, the condition is relatively serious, and it still needs to be combined with later radiotherapy and other measures to control the disease progression while symptomatically improving symptoms such as cough. The average 5-year survival rate of lung cancer is 15%~17%, which needs to be decided according to typing and staging.
It is recommended that patients after left pneumonectomy should follow the doctor’s instructions to have regular checkups, so as to deal with abnormalities in time in order to get the best treatment effect.
