The Chinese medicine cuttlebone, whose effects are astringent and hemostatic (treating bleeding disorders with medicines that have astringent effects), astringent and stopping leucorrhoea, is used to treat epistaxis (vomiting blood), metrorrhagia (excessive menstruation or dripping), blood in the stools, spermatorrhea and seminal emission, leucorrhoea (abnormal leucorrhoea with blood in it), and so on.
Cuttlebone is salty, astringent, warm, and belongs to the spleen and kidney meridians. It has the efficacy of astringency and hemostasis, which can be used for all kinds of bleeding, such as hematemesis, epistaxis, bleeding in the stool, etc.; it has the efficacy of astringency and stopping of leucorrhea, which can be used for spermatorrhea and seminal emission caused by renal deficiency; it also has the efficacy of acidity and analgesia, which can be used for gastric pain and swallowing of acidity.
Cuttlebone for external use has the effect of collecting wet astringent sores, can be used for eczema wet sores, ulcers do not converge.
Yin deficiency should not take more cuttlebone. It is easy to cause constipation, can be used with appropriate laxatives. The use of medication should be under the guidance of a doctor, it is not recommended to take medication on their own.
