How to treat impetigo

Impetigo, also known as yellow sores, is a common infectious skin disease of septic cocci. It presents as papules, blisters or pustules that easily break down and form crusts. It is contagious by contact and is generally more frequent in the summer and fall, mostly in children aged 2-7 years. For topical treatment, the following drugs can be used for external rubbing: 1% methyl viologen solution, 0.5% neomycin solution, and glyburide lotion; for thick pustules, 1% neomycin ointment or mupirocin ointment can be rubbed externally; for patients with extensive lesions, accompanied by fever or lymphadenitis, oral or static doses of penicillin antibiotics can be considered. Patients with impetigo should be properly isolated, and the clothes, towels and utensils that the affected children have touched should be disinfected.
