Did you know that scoliosis patients also need to bring a brace for review?

“Regular review” must be the doctor’s orders for scoliosis patients. During the treatment period, it is usually necessary to return to the hospital every few months to review the treatment effect of the brace and to adjust or replace the brace according to the degree of tightness and growth. The review includes a physical examination by the doctor and a full frontal and lateral X-ray of the spine in the standing position with the brace in place. Some parents find that their child’s chest curvature has worsened after wearing the brace for a period of time. This may be because the child has grown taller and the brace does not fit properly and may need to be adjusted. This is also the significance of regular review. It is important to note that the brace should be worn for each follow-up visit if not specifically explained by the doctor; it should be worn for at least half an hour before the film is taken; and the brace should be stretched as tightly as possible during the film. The brace needs to be gradually increased to correct the scoliosis as much as possible. After the correction effect is determined to be stable, the time of physical training and sports activities should be increased, and the intensity of muscle strength exercises should be increased. The orthopedic brace should be removed for 2-3 hours a day, and a radiograph should be taken for examination after 3 months. Adopt the method of interval wearing. Wear the orthopedic brace for six months to one year without wearing it during the day and wearing it at night. However, during the period of reduced brace wear, form training is added to replace the original brace treatment. I would like to emphasize here that it is important to follow the doctor’s instructions for the adjustment of the wearing time, and follow the doctor’s review time to review, after all, the doctor has experience, so that patients can take less detours.
