Ebola is a serious and fatal disease with a mortality rate of up to 90%. Clinical symptoms include sudden onset of fever, extreme malaise, muscle aches, headache, and sore throat, followed by vomiting, diarrhea, rash, and impaired kidney and liver function. In some cases, internal and external bleeding may occur, and laboratory tests may show a decrease in white blood cell and platelet counts and an increase in liver enzymes. The incubation period is usually 2-21 days, and the patient is contagious as soon as symptoms begin to appear, but not during the incubation period. The diagnosis of Ebola virus infection can only be confirmed by laboratory tests.
