What to do if you feel like you’re choking on something in your throat?

The feeling of something choking in the throat may be caused by chronic tonsillitis or chronic simple pharyngitis, esophageal cancer and other diseases.
1. Chronic tonsillitis: enlarged tonsils in the throat will produce a foreign body sensation in the throat, and the throat feels like choking on something. It should be forbidden to eat spicy and stimulating food, quit smoking and drinking, regular work and rest, conservative treatment can be used to improve immunity drugs, such as placenta globulin, transfer factor, etc.; surgical treatment can choose tonsillectomy and partial resection.
2. Chronic hypertrophic pharyngitis: When suffering from chronic hypertrophic pharyngitis, the root of the tongue and the posterior wall of the pharynx have a lot of lymphoid follicle hyperplasia, localized bulging, enlarged pharynx will produce a foreign body sensation, and feel like there is something choking and blocking. One should abstain from eating spicy and stimulating food, quit smoking and drinking, use iodized glycerin and silver nitrate to smear the posterior pharyngeal wall, and also use laser, microwave local physiotherapy, and also surgery.
3. Esophageal cancer: foreign body sensation in throat is one of the extra-esophageal symptoms of esophageal cancer. When there is foreign body sensation in throat, people who are older and have family history of esophageal cancer should be alert to esophageal cancer. If it is esophageal cancer, one should go to hospital for examination and take comprehensive treatment such as surgery and radiotherapy.
