Growing pains are usually symmetrical, with some children having pain in only one leg. Growing pains are pains that occur around the knee or on the front side of the lower leg without any trauma, and usually do not affect the child’s activities, nor do they have localized redness, swelling, or tenderness. Growing pains occur in healthy children aged 2 to 12 years old and are mainly characterized by recurrent intermittent pain in both lower limbs, which is evident in the tibia, knee and peripheral areas. Typical growing pains occur at night, last for a few minutes or a few hours and then relieve themselves, with mild pain, no discomfort during the intervals, and do not affect daytime activities. Children with growing pains can be relieved by hot compresses and massage. If the pain is severe, or accompanied by redness, swelling, fever and other symptoms, you should go to the hospital for further treatment.
