Ginseng can replenish vital energy (replenish the body’s root qi), restore the pulse and stabilize detachment (restore normal pulse and prevent detachment of substances), tonify the spleen and the lungs (replenish the spleen and lungs), promote the production of fluids and nourish the blood (replenish the body’s fluids and blood), and tranquilize the spirit and the intellect (stabilize the spirit and the mind, and promote intellectual development). It should not be used in conjunction with quassia and wulingzhi.
Ginseng is the dried root and rhizome of Panax ginseng, family Wujiaceae. It is sweet, slightly bitter and slightly warm. Attributed to the spleen, lung, heart and kidney meridians.
It is used in treating deficiency of body and blood, cold limbs and weak pulse, deficiency of spleen with little food, deficiency of lung with asthma and cough, thirst due to injury of fluids, thirst due to internal heat (internal heat accompanied by symptoms such as eating more, drinking more and urinating more), deficiency of qi and blood, deficiency of long term illness, palpitation and insomnia, impotence and coldness of the uterus.
It is not suitable to be used in conjunction with Veratrum and Wu Ling Ling Zhi.
