The ovaries are located in the pelvic cavity, one on each side, oval in shape and relatively flat. Before puberty, the surface of the ovaries is smooth, grayish white and not covered with peritoneum, mainly because before puberty, the function of the ovaries is imperfect and there is no ovulation, so the surface is smooth. After puberty, because the ovarian function has been perfected, under normal circumstances, there will be an egg discharged every month, so that the surface of the ovary becomes not smooth, which is a normal physiological phenomenon. When a woman enters menopause, due to the decline of ovarian function, the ovary itself will appear to shrink and harden, and will no longer secrete estrogen and progesterone cyclically, and will no longer ovulate.
