About the treatment of polycystic ovary syndrome

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is an endocrine disorder in women of reproductive age, characterized by hyperandrogenemia, ovulation disorders and polycystic ovarian changes (PCO). However, its biochemical and clinical manifestations are highly diverse and heterogeneous. Most of them start after puberty, in addition to irregular menstruation, infertility and hirsutism. Some women with PCOS also have metabolic abnormalities, including hyperinsulinemia, insulin resistance, dyslipidemia, and obesity. The cause of polycystic ovary syndrome is still unclear, but it is thought that it may be related to a combination of genetic predisposition, unsafe diet, mental stress, environmental pollution and radiation, drugs, early marriage and pregnancy, and abortion. Although the condition of PCOS is complex, but not absolutely incurable disease, by improving the above unfavorable factors, adjusting lifestyle, weight loss, relaxation, etc., can improve the effectiveness of treatment, to achieve remission of the disease, to obtain the effect of fertility. The current treatment of PCOS is mainly: 1, weight loss: help the treatment of obese PCOS women, can promote the recovery of spontaneous menstrual cycles and ovulation, and at the same time can improve the effect of ovulation drugs. 2. Clomiphene (CC): It is considered to be the first-line drug for ovulation promotion in PCOS patients. There are reports showing that 5268 patients taking clomiphene had 73% ovulation rate, 36% pregnancy rate and 29% live birth rate.CC ovulation promotion is also ineffective. Ineffectiveness is more likely to occur in patients with obesity, insulin resistance and hyperandrogenemia. 3.Daine-35: It is used to treat androgen-dependent diseases in women, such as acne, seborrheic dermatitis or nodular acne, androgenetic alopecia in women, light hirsutism, and hyperandrogenic manifestations in patients with polycystic ovary syndrome. 4.Chinese herbal medicine: By adjusting the body’s bias, we can fundamentally promote ovarian ovulation, achieve the elimination of ovarian polycystic changes, regulate menstruation, improve egg quality and endometrial tolerance, and improve fertility. 5.Acupuncture: In recent years, the use of acupuncture in the field of reproductive endocrinology and infertility has received increasing attention from people all over the world. According to the basic theory of Chinese medicine, qi is an important substance to maintain the vital activities of human body, and qi stagnation leads to dysfunction of internal organs, and ovarian polycystic changes are considered to be the cause of anovulatory type infertility. Acupuncture of meridians and acupoints is used to unblock the flow of qi, so that the function of the internal organs can be gradually restored and eggs can be expelled. The mechanism of action of acupuncture can also be understood from the perspective of Western physiology. The distribution of sensory nerves in the acupuncture area corresponds to the affected organ, such as acupuncture points in the ovaries and uterus, which can regulate menstruation and promote conception. Several clinical trials have shown that acupuncture treatment can lower total testosterone and other sex hormone levels, as well as lower LH/FSH ratios, and can improve the menstrual cycle without side effects. For example, a randomized controlled clinical trial (RCT) found that 14 sessions of low-frequency electroacupuncture (EA) over 16 weeks improved menstrual cycles and reduced levels of sex hormone precursors and androgen metabolites in women with PCOS compared with 16 weeks of physical activity and no intervention, and that acupuncture was more effective than physical activity.
