Iron amaranth has the effect of clearing heat and removing toxins, inducing diuresis, astringency and stopping bleeding (using medicines with astringent effects to treat bleeding disorders), with no clear contraindications.
Iron amaranth is the dried whole grass of the Euphorbiaceae plant. Bitter, astringent and cool in nature. Attributed to the heart, lung meridian. It has the effect of clearing away heat and detoxification, inducing diuresis, astringency and stopping bleeding. It is used in the treatment of enteritis, dysentery, hematemesis, epistaxis, hematochezia, uraemia, and leakage; externally, it can be used in the treatment of carbuncle sores and ulcers, dermatitis and eczema.
It is often used clinically together with Siberian leaves, Cimicifuga charcoal, Araliaceae, and Cimicifuga for treating epistaxis (nosebleed), hemoptysis, hematochezia, hemorrhage, and traumatic hemorrhage and other hemorrhagic syndromes. It can also be used with Amaranthus tinctorius, Dijin grass, Plantago ovata and Polygonum multiflorum to treat diarrhea and dysentery.
