Suitable people for Parkinson’s disease DBS therapy and timing of surgery

  I. DBS treatment is most effective in patients with the following diagnoses and symptoms: 1. Patients with primary Parkinson’s disease who have responded to levodopa; 2. Patients with diminished efficacy or unacceptable side effects of anti-Parkinsonian medications; 3. Patients with motor symptoms resulting in significant functional impairment; 4. Patients whose physical and mental status is suitable for surgical treatment; 5. Patients with idiopathic tremor; 6. Patients with primary torsional spasm patients. Patients can receive DBS treatment when they have the following conditions: 1. Patients with primary PD diagnosed with predominantly tremor, with unsatisfactory improvement of tremor after standard drug therapy, may be relaxed to 3 years after evaluation if the patient strongly requests early surgery to improve symptoms; 2. 4. The patient is currently unable to control symptoms satisfactorily, has significantly decreased efficacy or has experienced difficult motor fluctuations or dyskinesia that affects quality of life or is drug-refractory tremor, or is intolerant to drugs.
