If ketone bodies (+) are found during the physical examination, two conditions need to be identified. 1. It may be a complication of diabetes, diabetic ketosis, which is a serious complication of diabetes. 2. However, if only ketone bodies (+) are present, without a significant increase in blood glucose and without a history of diabetes, this disease cannot be diagnosed. It may be caused by hunger. Often patients have to fast water in the morning before the physical examination, and they may also eat less the day before, so the ketone bodies that appear are probably caused by hunger. If the ketone body disappears and the blood sugar and urine sugar are normal, it is considered to be caused by starvation and there is nothing to worry about. However, if the blood glucose is significantly elevated with ketone bodies (+), diabetic ketosis is considered, and insulin treatment is needed, along with more water or fluids to help expel ketone bodies.
