Effectiveness of spironolactone tablets for acne

Spironolactone for acne is one of the anti-sebum secretion drugs among the acne medications and has anti-androgenic effects. The current clinical dosage is generally 40-60 mg per day for a month or more. Therefore, the efficacy of oral spironolactone medication alone for acne is limited. The combination of oral and topical antibiotics and isotretinoin, including retinoic acid ointment, can shorten the course of treatment and accelerate the efficacy. Currently, the main applications of minocycline hydrochloride and clindamycin; retinoic acid ointments, such as 0.1% adapalene gel, are still effective.
