A hangnail is intravenous fluids. When chickenpox is present without a fever, oral medication is usually given first to support treatment, and intravenous fluids are usually not needed in the first place.
Chickenpox is an infection that causes an itchy rash to form on the skin and is caused by the varicella zoster virus. The virus can remain in the body for several years and later cause a painful rash called “shingles. Most normally healthy young children recover on their own.
Treatment for chickenpox includes antihistamines to help treat the symptoms of itching; fingernails should be kept as short as possible to avoid scratching which can cause visible skin breakdown and secondary bacterial infections; and acetaminophen to treat fever, especially in children. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs that are not aspirin may also be given.
