It is possible, but highly unlikely, that a child with a single ventricle can be saved. Single ventricle is a very serious congenital heart disease in which there is only one ventricle and venous blood is completely mixed with arterial blood. Basically, the child will miscarry during pregnancy, and even if it does not miscarry, most of the affected children will die within a short period of time after birth. In a small number of patients, surgery can be performed when the condition is stable, but it is more difficult and there are more postoperative complications, so the mortality rate of children with a single ventricle is still high.
