There are four main dangers of multidrug-resistant tuberculosis. First, multidrug-resistant tuberculosis is spread over a long period of time, and multidrug-resistant patients are among the sources of infection. The easiest hazard is close contact with family members, colleagues or classmates. Second, the treatment cycle for multi-drug-resistant tuberculosis is very long, at least 18 to 24 months. It is not easy for many patients to adhere to the long cycle of treatment, and in the process of multidrug-resistant treatment, injections are given, and injections take at least six to eight months, which is very painful for the patient and not easy to adhere to. Third, because of the long course of treatment and the many varieties of drugs, the cost of treatment is very high, at least a hundred times higher than that of ordinary tuberculosis. Generally, multidrug-resistant TB costs more than 100,000 yuan a year, and two years is about 200,000 yuan, so it is very difficult for families to afford it. Fourth, because of the long treatment time and many drugs, the corresponding incidence of adverse reactions is high. Generally patients are prone to liver and kidney function, hearing, vision damage, and joint pain, so the types of adverse reactions occur high. In addition, its cure rate is not high. The global cure rate is about 50%, and in our country it may be 40%-50%, and now it is a little higher in Wuhan, more than 70%. The overall cure rate is not high, so nearly 40-50% of patients are standardized treatment, but may also fail to treat. The harm after treatment failure is even greater, because after treatment failure, a wider range of drug resistance will develop. And treatment failure is very devastating to the patient’s body, mind, and family. If there is no new drug for a person who has failed treatment, it is basically called a drug-free disease in TB. So it’s called infectious chronic lung cancer, and that’s what the industry calls it. So the danger is relatively great.
