If previously immunized with tetanus vaccine, re-injection is not required within 3 years from the last injection, and re-injection is not required for injuries within 10 days for those who have only received tetanus toxoid.
1. For those who have received tetanus toxoid immunoprophylaxis in the past, they do not need to be re-injected with tetanus toxoid or antitoxin when they are injured within 3 years from the last injection, and for those who have received tetanus antitoxin more than 3 years ago, they need to be reinforced with tetanus toxoid injection once or be temporarily vaccinated with tetanus antitoxin.
2. For those who have not been fully immunized in the past, tetanus toxoid injection within 10 days of re-injury may not need to be injected again, while those who have been injected for more than 10 days will need to be injected again.
The need for re-injection of tetanus toxoid after a tetanus shot depends on the patient’s condition, and it is recommended that the patient should go to the hospital for evaluation in order to avoid delays in his/her condition.
