Half-summer is mainly used for treating phlegm-drinking vertigo and palpitations (vertigo and palpitations caused by phlegm-drinking evils), phlegm-convulsive headache (headache caused by phlegm-evil obstruction of qi), etc. Xia Gu Cao is mainly used for treating headache and vertigo, redness of the eyes, swollenness and pain, etc. Both of them are usually not used for the treatment of intractable insomnia.
1. Xia Gua Cao is warm, pungent and poisonous in nature, and belongs to the spleen, lung and stomach meridians. It has the efficacy of drying dampness and resolving phlegm (expelling dampness by drying dampness and dissolving phlegm), eliminating lumps and dispersing knots (eliminating knots in the body), and subduing rebelliousness and stopping vomiting (blocking the upward flow of gastric qi and stopping vomiting).
It is mainly used in treating damp phlegm and cold phlegm, phlegm-drinking vertigo and palpitations, chest and epigastric lumps (feeling of fullness and stuffiness in the chest and abdomen), vomiting and regurgitation, and prune nucleus qi (similar to pharyngeal allodynia). This product cannot be used together with Chuanwu, Psoralea, Prepared Chuanwu, Prepared Caowu, Caowu, and the raw product should be taken internally with caution.
2. Xia Gu Cao is cold in nature, bitter in taste, and belongs to the liver and gallbladder meridians. It has the effects of clearing the liver and diarrhea, dispersing knots and eliminating swellings, and brightening the eyes.
It is mainly used for the treatment of eye redness and swelling pain, headache and dizziness, breast fetish (painful lumps in the breasts, closely related to menstrual cycle and emotional changes, equivalent to breast hyperplasia), gall tumors (equivalent to thyroid tumors), etc., and the adverse reactions and contraindications are not clear.
