How prevalent are thyroid nodules?

Thyroid nodules are very common. The prevalence of thyroid nodules detected on palpation in the general population is 3-7%, while the prevalence of thyroid nodules detected on high-definition ultrasound is 20-70%. Thyroid nodules appear differently on different tests, e.g. palpation reveals a palpable mass in the thyroid region; thyroid ultrasound reveals a focal area of abnormal echogenicity. The key to diagnosing and treating thyroid nodules is to identify benign and malignant. Most thyroid nodules are benign, and malignant nodules account for only about 5% of thyroid nodules. Patients diagnosed with thyroid nodules should actively cooperate with their doctors and undergo regular checkups.
