Swelling and pain in the gums behind the last tooth may be wisdom tooth pericoronitis, which requires local rinsing, incision and drainage, apical periapical inflammation, which requires incision and drainage of pus and root canal treatment, and periodontal abscess, which requires incision and drainage of pus.
1. Wisdom tooth pericoronitis: use hydrogen peroxide solution or chlorhexidine solution to rinse the gingival pocket repeatedly, if there is abscess near the gingival flap, make incision and place drainage strip in time, take anti-inflammatory drugs such as cephalosporin and metronidazole orally if necessary, and consider extracting the affected tooth after the inflammation is under control.
2. Apical periodontitis: If an abscess is formed under the periosteum or mucosa, incision and drainage will be made at the low level of the abscess, and root canal treatment will be carried out to promote the healing of the periapical lesion.
3. Periodontal abscess: according to the location of the abscess, make an incision from the surface of the gums or the periodontal pocket to drain the pus, and then carry out subgingival debridement under local anesthesia.
