Bowel sounds are not a precursor to bowel cancer and can occur in normal or other medical conditions. Bowel sounds are the sounds that occur when the contents of the bowel, such as food and water, move through the bowel. Bowel sounds can occur under normal circumstances and tend to be more active, especially when you are hungry. If the bowel sounds are increased or decreased, the bowel may be functioning abnormally, resulting in intestinal disorders. There are many intestinal diseases that can cause abnormal bowel sounds in daily life, such as acute and chronic enteritis, intestinal dysfunction, intestinal obstruction, intestinal tumors and so on, all of which may cause abnormal bowel sounds. In the early stage of intestinal cancer, the symptoms are usually not obvious, only digestive disorders or occult blood in stool. However, with the development of tumor, the symptoms will gradually aggravate, which are often manifested as the change of stool habit and character. When bowel cancer increases in size and causes intestinal obstruction, there can be active bowel sounds. Therefore, when bowel sounds are abnormal, it should be treated according to doctor’s instruction, but bowel sounds are not a precursor of bowel cancer.
