Patients can distinguish between true myopia and pseudomyopia through dilated optometry.
Myopia is a common ophthalmologic condition and is a type of refractive error that can be subdivided into two different types: true myopia, which is caused by lengthening of the eye’s axis, and pseudomyopia, which is caused by ciliary spasms. To differentiate between true myopia and pseudomyopia, patients can have their eyes dilated.
Patients can follow the doctor’s instructions to use compound tropicamide eye drops and other eye drops to paralyze the ciliary muscle, eliminating its spasm, thus eliminating the pseudomyopia part. After dilating the pupils, an optometric examination will be performed, and if myopia is present, it is true myopia. If the patient’s myopia disappears, it is due to pseudomyopia.
It is recommended that myopic patients seek medical attention to evaluate their condition and follow the doctor’s instructions.
