What to do if your nose is blocked and you can’t breathe

There are many causes of nasal congestion and non-ventilation, which may be caused by acute rhinitis sinusitis, deviated nasal septum, chronic rhinitis sinusitis or benign and malignant tumors of the nasal cavity and sinuses, with different causes and different treatment methods, some requiring medication and others requiring surgery.

In the case of acute rhinitis and sinusitis, patients often have nasal congestion along with nasal runny nose, headache and reduced sense of smell. For the treatment of these diseases, the first thing is to take oral antibiotics, preferably penicillin or cephalosporin antibiotics, such as amoxicillin clavulanate potassium, cefuroxime, etc.; local glucocorticoid nasal spray can be used in the nasal cavity, such as endosulfan nasal spray, tretinoin nasal spray, etc.; nasal decongestants can also be used in the nose, such as furosemide nasal drops, ephedrine nasal drops, etc. If the nasal secretion is high, saline can be used to rinse the nasal cavity. In case of long-term nasal congestion caused by deviated nasal septum, most of them need surgical treatment. The nasal cavity of patients with chronic rhinitis and sinusitis is often persistent, and nasal congestion is more pronounced in patients with nasal polyps. Medication is the same as for acute rhinitis and sinusitis. When medication is not effective, surgery and post-operative comprehensive treatment are required. Nasal congestion caused by benign and malignant nasal sinus tumors is often accompanied by some other symptoms, and the treatment is mainly based on surgical treatment.

Therefore, the treatment of nasal congestion varies from disease to disease. If there is persistent nasal congestion, it is better to go to the hospital and ask the doctor to check, if necessary, to do an electronic nasopharyngoscopy and CT examination of the nose, to make a clear diagnosis and treat the symptoms. (Specific medication, please combine with clinical, subject to the guidance of the doctor’s interview)
