If a patient’s blood gas analysis indicates a higher than normal partial pressure of carbon dioxide, this is considered to be due to pulmonary ventilation dysfunction. Common diseases that can cause elevated CO2 include chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, chronic pulmonary heart disease, tuberculosis, lung tumors, severe pneumonia, etc. If a patient develops type 2 respiratory failure, non-invasive ventilator therapy can be considered, and if non-invasive ventilator therapy is ineffective, invasive ventilator therapy can be considered. In addition to treatment with ventilator, corresponding treatment should be taken according to the primary disease, for example, patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease should take comprehensive anti-infection, expectorant and asthma related treatment according to their condition. If the patient has respiratory failure caused by tuberculosis or tumor, anti-tuberculosis and anti-tumor treatment should be considered.
