What is the difference between dermal spots and melasma?

The difference between dermal spots and chloasma mainly includes different onset sites, different clinical manifestations and different pathologies. 1. Different onset sites: common clinical dermal spots, such as nevus of Ota, are easy to be distributed along the area of trigeminal nerve of the face; nevus of brownish-bronze, also belonging to dermal spots, is easy to occur in the area of zygomatic bone, and is usually dotted with bluish-brown spots. Melasma easily occurs on the face, is diffuse yellow-brown spots, usually symmetrically distributed. 2. Different clinical manifestations: dermal spots are mainly blue or dark blue. Melasma, also called butterfly spot, usually occurs on the face, like a butterfly-like distribution, with yellowish brown or dark brown color. 3. Differences in pathology: dermal spots include a wide range, such as nevus of Ota, brownish-bronze nevus, nevus of Ito, Mongolian spots, etc., which are more generalized concepts. Most of melasma, on the other hand, belongs to pigmented diseases of superficial dermis or epidermis. When pigmented skin damage occurs, it is recommended to consult the dermatology department of regular hospitals and take relevant examinations with the doctor’s advice, so as to clarify the cause first and give appropriate treatment accordingly.
