Six-month-old babies always hiccups, may be physiological factors, also considered with epilepsy, gastroesophageal reflux disease and other disease factors.
1. Physiological factors:
(1) imperfect development: because the newborn’s diaphragm and digestive function are not well developed innately, so daily eating or slight stimulation, such as being cold, eating too much, etc. are easy to trigger hiccups.
(2) Gastric distension: babies eat too fast, inhale too much air or eat too much, resulting in gastric distension and expansion, which compresses the diaphragm and triggers hiccups due to diaphragmatic spasm.
2. Pathologic factors:
(1) Epilepsy: it is a chronic disease with sudden abnormal discharges of neurons in the brain, leading to transient brain dysfunction. Affected children may have muscle spasms, nodding, bowing and other phenomena, and the forehead and face are easily bruised. Hiccups may occur when the phrenic nerve is compressed.
(2) Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD): Due to the reflux of gastric contents into the esophagus, when it stays in the esophagus for a long period of time, it will cause damage to the esophageal mucosa and trigger inflammation, which will lead to symptoms such as hiccups, vomiting and so on.
