What does bv mean?

BV in the context of gynecological disorders is short for bacterial vaginitis. If BV is positive it means that the patient has a dysbiosis of the vaginal flora and there is a bacterial vaginal inflammation that needs to be treated. In this case, the patient mostly has increased amount of leukorrhea, yellowish green color, fishy odor and the patient mostly has localized redness, itching and other abnormal discomfort. If the patient is not pregnant and is not in a state of pregnancy preparation, the patient may choose to use topical metronidazole vaginal tablets, together with oral ornidazole or tinidazole. If the patient is in a state of pregnancy or is already pregnant, the patient may choose to be treated with nifurtimox, either as a vaginal suppository or as an oral preparation.
